The Revolution Will Be Commercialized

01 “By presenting a fictitious worst-case scenario as  genuine the Anarkon project questions the influence of corporate, branding and advertising power in a culture consumed by consumption. Its goal is to encourage citizens to examine their response to commercial messaging and to play a more active role in determining the limits of corporate power in American society.”

This series is a fantastic look at what the future may hold if the corporate world continues to take control of everyday life here in America. Check out the rest of the series here.

Take This Job And…

resignation_screenThe design biz is an interesting one. I’ve only been at it a few years and I can already tell you some interesting stories. Weirdo clients, unreal expectations, tedious work, and stress are only the beginning of things. My girlfriend showed me this picture a little bit ago and it definitely summed up my thoughts at some points in time. Quite possibly the funniest thing I’ve seen in a very very long time, at least to me. I know other designers can relate. Even if you aren’t a designer I’m sure you can still relate. I suggest you follow the link to see the full size image.

Art We Like: D’Face

d'faceEverywhere you look on the internet you can find people talking about Bansky, but if you ask me I think that D’Face could give him a run for is money. D’Face likes to take Dark images and give them a bright cartoony edge. He typically layers multiple images and uses different methods to create his pieces. His art is both thought provoking and fun all at the same time. Make sure to check out his web page and his online gallery that includes a staggering amount of images. You can also watch this short introduction video about his recent NY City work.

Dan Clowes was Uggly

uggly_familySometimes I remember random things from when I was a kid. I was thinking back about an ongoing series that appeared in Cracked Magazine. After some searching I came up with what I wanted, The Uggly Family. I was very surprised to see it was done by Dan Clowes, Mr. Art School Confidential and Ghost World himself. I remember being 9 or 10 and reading Cracked, and being sort of grossed out but strangely mesmerized by the Uggly Family.

Sweet Lookin Lego Figures

cubedude_soundwave_figureA quick post this morning. A Flickr site full amazing lego figurines, by a fellow named Cubedude. I especially liked this Soundwave figure, mainly because of the tiny little lazer beak he managed to incorporate into it. There are all kinds of figures from TV, movies, and comics. It’s definitely worth looking at. I was very impressed to see that he sketches out his ideas.

Bomb It

BOMB-IT-BANNERJust watched this movie this morning. As far as graffiti docs go I thoroughly I enjoyed i and thought it had a lot of insight into things. One thing that struck me most was the way that different cities layouts dictated how graffiti was made. I’m paraphrasing but one artist in the movie remarked how some cities lacked subways or trains so people would have to get up on billboards or overpasses. Others in Sao Paulo had to resort the high facades of buildings. The movie is online and it’s free. So Check it out.
